Stari Grad Farmers’ Market
The farmers’ market located by the bay is open every day from 6 am to 10 pm. Here’s a helpful tip: Keep an eye out for smaller stands on the far-right side with a handmade sign displaying the letters “OPG.” If these local merchants are present, be sure to visit them, as they have land outside of town and offer locally sourced produce. The larger stands typically sell imported produce.
Fish Market
The fish market is open very early in the morning, around 6 am, and is located in the same area as the Stari Grad Farmers’ Market. Here’s a useful tip: You can also watch for fishermen at the end of the bay, as many of them sell their freshly caught fish directly from their boats.
Za Pod Zub
Discover a wide variety of the finest local products at this shop, featuring over 70 producers and 250 products, ranging from exceptional olive oil and delightful sweets to exquisite local wines. The shop is located on the left side of the Riva in Stari Grad.

Sveti Nikola
Sveta Nedjelja is a charming small town nestled beneath St. Nikola, the island’s highest peak, standing at 626 meters. The rising hills that envelop the village are adorned with grapevines, which support the local vineyards. You’ll also find numerous olive orchards and lavender fields in the area, adding to the picturesque landscape.
Walk by the sea
This beautiful, easy route (8.2 km, an average of 1h 39 min to complete) starts from the town of Jelsa and leads to Vrboska, following the coastline and passing by various bays. Throughout the journey, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the sea, the Soline bay, and the narrow channel of Vrboska’s port. This trail is open year-round and offers scenic beauty at any time of the year.
Vrboska – Starogradsko Polje
The trail begins in Vrboska and heads towards the island’s interior, passing through the fields of Stari Grad and nearby settlements. Upon reaching the entrance to Stari Grad, the trail heads south, taking you through the villages of Dol and Vrbanj. Continuing from Vrbanj, the path winds through vineyards and olive groves to the east, leading you to Jelsa, and finally follows the coastline back to Vrboska. This trail covers a distance of 22.4 km.
Walking through Lavender fields
Lavender typically blooms from late May to mid-July, with late June being the ideal time to visit, especially to coincide with the festival. The largest lavender fields on Hvar are situated around Zastrazisce, Gdinj, and Bogomolje. If you have a rental car at your disposal, driving there is your best option, as local buses have infrequent schedules, so be sure to check the timetable
Trail St. Anthony – Zavala
Embark on a 7.1-km loop trail near Jelsa, passing by the Church of St. Anthony and the fire tower along the way. This route is generally considered moderately challenging and typically takes about 2 hours and 24 minutes to complete. It’s an ideal trail for birdwatching, hiking, and mountain biking, and you’re likely to enjoy the peaceful solitude of the surroundings with few encounters with other people.

St. Stephen’s Cathedral
St. Stephen’s Cathedral, situated in the heart of Hvar town, is a splendid historic church known for its magnificent Baroque architecture, including a striking 17th-century bell tower. Despite its rich history and iconic exterior, entry to the church is remarkably affordable at just 10 Kuna per person.
